JT GIANTS ensured that it is tight at the top going into the final weekend of group matches in the 2012 Clydesdale Bank International Guernsey Premier League.

Tom Kimber's side held their nerve to inflict a second defeat on Cenkos Centurions in Saturday evening's match at Port Soif to be within half-a-point of their second-placed opponents with two round-robin matches remaining.

It was a game the Centurions will feel they should have won with captain Iain Atchison and opening partner Tim Ravenscroft having given them a solid platform at the start of their reply to Giants' 120.

Once again it was the former Hampshire man who was the more aggressive of the two, plundering four boundaries in his 29 while Atchison was content to work in ones and twos as they put on 48 for the first wicket in eight overs. However, when they both fell in the same over – Kimber running out Atchison before GH Smit knocked over Ravenscroft's castle – much of their momentum was lost.
