GUERNSEY could not recover from a nightmare start yesterday as Denmark took the lead in the two-match Carlsberg International Challenge Trophy Series.

On a belter of a pitch at the KGV, the home side slumped to 16 for three in the sixth over of their innings and were never in a position to post any sort of testing target for the visitors from there.

Seamer Aftab Ahmed had done the damage, removing both openers GH Smit and Ben Ferbrache before rearranging Stuart Le Prevost's stumps for a golden duck, and it felt as if the game was already over as a contest at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair of Jeremy Frith and Ross Kneller then showed what could be accomplished with a little bit of application as they made batting look relatively easy against a disciplined Danish attack. But it was not enough.

Captain Pedersen hit the winning boundary with 14.3 overs to spare.
