Pothas toughens his stance with U19s

IT'S fair to say that Nic Pothas is underwhelmed with how his next generation sides have performed this past fortnight.

First the Under-19s, albeit not at strength, lost three matches on the bounce against the full-strength touring Netherlands. Then, the Under-17s, the majority of whom will form part of the Under-19s team at this and next week's ICC European U19 Division One World Cup qualifying tournament in Holland, succeeded in losing another three times to the Danes at Eastbourne.

Pothas, the island's director of cricket, blew his top on the Sussex coast and let his proteges know it.

While he has faith in his young charges and has consistently spoken of how they can shape Guernsey's cricketing future, his mood has changed and he says it is time for the team to step up to the plate at the six-nation tournament.
