Guernsey U19s lose to Denmark

THE word going around the city of Utrecht on Friday was that it was the hottest day in the country's history.

And the 35C temperatures and scoreboard pressure ultimately frazzled and dazzled Nic Pothas's U19 side, who lost a tight encounter by 42 runs.

Having lost the toss, Guernsey were made to endure the midday sun and they stuck to their task well and made Denmark battle for their runs.

With Matt Stokes and Jordon Martel sharing the new ball, the Danish openers had to take the greatest of care and the first 10 overs yielded just 22 runs.

The run rate steadily increased but even when Malik and Javed were sharing a third-wicket stand of 93 they were unable to get on top of the bowling.
