Ollie Newey, 31, will take on the responsibility for 50-over all-day games and young Josh Butler, just 21, will lead the T20 side, which has a European tournament to look forward to at the end of the season.

Head of cricket Ash Wright said it was ‘an exciting time for the GCB with Ollie and Josh stepping up as captains’.

He added: ‘I am confident that they will be able to help our young squad grow in stature and become the backbone of Guernsey cricket. As a squad we need to continue to develop our skill levels and produce match winning performances.

‘With more international games coming to the island and a T20 competition at the end of the year, there will be plenty of games on home soil for all to enjoy.’

Hannah Mechem will captain the Guernsey women’s team.
