The Guernsey all-rounder was not needed to bat on Saturday in his club’s final timed game of the season, with county player James Adams playing a starring role, hitting 148 from just 130 balls out of his side’s mammoth total of 328 for 3 against Bashley on Saturday.

But Stokes did claim the important wicket of Bashley captain Michael Porter, whom he bowled for 24, as the opposition were bowled out for just 133.

The result means that St Cross Symondians finish top of the timed games table with a points average of 20.111, having won six and drawn two of their nine fixtures.

They are currently second in the overall Southern Premier table, which also takes into account limited-over matches.

Meanwhile, Lee Savident made a valuable 36 at the top of the order for his club, Burridge, as they beat the Hampshire Academy by 14 runs at the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.

Savident hit seven boundaries in his 50-ball innings to help his side reach 259 all out before the Hampshire Academy were bowled out for 245.

Burridge are currently top of the limited-over table, having won all three of their matches in the format so far.

In Division One, Guernsey batsman Tom Nightingale hit a half-century for Sarisbury Athletic but finished on the losing side in a close game against Portsmouth.

Chasing Portsmouth’s total of 193, Sarisbury were in trouble at 11 for 2 when Nightingale came to the crease and scored 55 from 73 deliveries, including six fours and a six.

He was joined in a fourth-wicket stand worth 93 by Josh Hill, who made 61, but Sarisbury Athletic lost their last five wickets for 27 runs as they were bowled out for 176.

Former Guernsey star Jeremy Frith was in the runs again in Division Two, making 91 as his table-topping Sparsholt side successfully chased down Langley Manor’s 224 for the loss of five wickets.
