Tardif sticks to his guns
MURATTI boss Chris Tardif is sticking to his guns after his second straight loss at the hands of the Caesareans.
‘Less regrets than the year before for sure,’ he said as he reflected on a fourth Muratti defeat in five years for the Sarnians.
‘Our preparation was very good and we got the shape right and starting XI correct,’ he insisted.
‘They were better than us first half, absolutely, and I just don’t think we got the composed possession we wanted. It took us a long time to settle.’
Tardif is now focused on preparing for the imminent alternative Island Games tournament in Ynys Mon (15-22 June) where, again, Jersey will be big rivals.
He will announce his squad next week and it is likely to look a whole lot different to his Muratti group with a number of younger players getting their chance to impress.
Guernsey are in a group with Shetland and St Helena and are guaranteed a third game at an event which will see Jersey, in contrast, taking close to a full strength squad.
Tardif is hoping that some of his Ynys Mon squad will soon be challenging for Muratti spots and he seems keen to continue.
‘I took it on because I wanted to make a difference and as coaching team I think we did make a difference.
‘It didn’t quite come off on the day.’
