North deserved slice of luck – Alvarez

NEW North coach Jose Alvarez laughed when questioned on his side’s fluky opening goal for River Marsh in the important FNB Priaulx league win over Alderney on Saturday.

‘We deserved some luck because we have had a lot of bad luck so far,’ he said while looking forward to tonight’s league game against Bels at the Track.

‘It was very important [to win] after the result against Manzur,’ said Alvarez, who will have Scott Bougourd back for tonight’s game.

‘Our team just did their jobs and what we asked them to do,’ he said of a performance which lifted his team into third in the table and within range of top spot if they win again against a side they have already thumped in the Jeremie Cup.

Alvarez is wary of Bels, though, simply because of that result.

‘Bels had a cracking result Saturday and they will be up for it more than usual because of the last result against us.’

Bels will also go top with a win.

One interested observer will, most probably, be the league’s representative side coach, Charlie Pinsard.

Tomorrow night he continues his preparations for the FA Inter-league Cup game against the Hampshire Premier division with a match against a Guernsey FC side at Blanche Pierre Lane.

Kick-off is at 7.30.
