Saints beat Sylvans 2-1 at St Peter’s on Saturday afternoon to end the home side’s unbeaten run, but Meakin said it was still early on in the season.

‘It’s still very early days, anyone could beat anyone yet and that just shows how competitive this league is, but it is good to get the points in early on,’ said Meakin.

‘I think we have had a really good start to this season.’

League leaders Sylvans had started with four wins from four until Saturday, and Meakin said he was happy with how his side had performed against them.

‘I’m really happy, it was a good game and looked like it could have gone either way towards the end,’ he said.

‘I think we started really well today.’

Goals from Frazer Maginnis and captain George Mason helped secure Saints the three points on Saturday.

‘I think George Mason did really well for us today,’ said Meakin.

‘He never lost a header – he had a really good game.

‘Everyone played really well today, a really good game for all of them.’

Elsewhere in the Priaulx League on Saturday, the two teams at the bottom of the table, Rangers and Belgrave Wanderers drew 1-1 at St Andrews.

Jarod Carrington capitalised on a defensive error to open the scoring early in the second half – Bels’ first goal of the season.

Rangers keeper Rob Cowley made two crucial saves before a late equaliser from a corner from Owaine Mansell for the hosts.

Bels remain bottom of the table on goal difference but the sides have both earned their first league point.
