‘Cholt’ won’t be risked
CHARLTON GAUVAIN’S short and mid-term future won’t be risked by the Guernsey FC management.
GFC coach Tony Vance has left ‘Cholt’. the exciting 18-year-old, out of his 15-man squad to play Sevenoaks Town at Footes Lane tomorrow, even though the coach is sure the youngster will say he is fit to play.
‘I’ve got to look after him,’ said Vance, who is worried that the player being closely monitored by Bristol City is picking up too many injuries and not rehabbing as he should.
‘It will be much to his frustration that I leave him out, but it is in his best interests. He has got to rehab properly. He has the U18s Muratti coming up.’
Apart from the absence of Gauvain, it is a strong and familiar 15-man squad named.
Kyle Smith returns and the UK-based youngster Tom Jackson drops out as the Green Lions look to put a quick end to a sudden dip in form and beat Sevenoaks for the second time this season.
‘We beat them 2-0 away around November time when I was laid up and we played really well.
‘It was a very controlled and mature performance from us that time. But they have got a big aerial threat and two good scorers up front. They have had some great results but they are just above us in the table, so it should be a good contest.’
Vance says the time has now come for his squad to enjoy the rest of the campaign and not have to endure any overloading of coaching.
‘They have taken a lot on board this season and I think it is important we don’t over-coach them. That will probably be our emphasis for the rest of the season.’
Squad: Stanton, de la Mare, Marsh, Dodd, Dodds, Tobin, L. Mahon, Skillen, Loaring, Canha, Fazakerley, Pereira, Smith, Dyer and Rihoy.
