Central defence boost for GFC
JAMIE DODD has recovered from the virus which ruled him out of Sunday’s home loss to Sevenoaks and returns to the Guernsey FC defence at promotion-chasing Hythe Town today.
Further good news for the Green Lions, who have lost three on the bounce and slipped into relegation danger, is that not only is fellow central defender Frank Tobin available, his suspension for a straight red six days ago carries just a one-game ban and does not kick in until after this weekend.
Tony Vance is able to name a strong squad with Dodd returning for Simon Geall and the only notable absentee being Dave Rihoy, but he is under no illusions how difficult the Hythe game will be.
‘It is a difficult place to go and the pitch doesn’t allow for good football. We have taken some pastings there and we need to get that resilience back.
‘We’ve got our philosophy and own way of playing, but it does differ away from home and our away results have been fantastic this season, all things considered.’
The Green Lions will hope to repeat the corresponding game of last season, which ended in a 1-1 draw just after Christmas. This term Hythe sit seventh, two points outside the play-off spots, and have had an inconsistent February, winning two and losing two.
This week they signed striker Tom Carlton from Herne Bay and he is likely to go straight into the squad today.
Likely 15-man squad: Cal Stanton, Tom de la Mare, Keanu Marsh, Jamie Dodd, Frank Tobin, Thomas Dodds, Matt Loaring, Seb Skillen, Liam Mahon, Paris Pereira, Glyn Dyer, Kyle Smith, Carlos Canha, Will Fazakerley and Tom Jackson.
