Acey and Gauvain will add dynamism to GFC
BEN ACEY is back to boost the Green Lions for their important trip to Westfield today.
The teenager is currently in talks to sign for Bristol City after his successful trial with the Robins, but he remains registered for Guernsey FC and manager Tony Vance is delighted to have both him and Charlton Gauvain available this weekend.
‘At the moment, we are able to use Ben – it is similar to the situation we had with Alex Scott when we used him for a couple of games while his move was being sorted out – so why not use your assets when they are available?’ Vance said.
‘It is a real positive to have him and Charlton back because we have two players there who have the ability to break lines and bring dynamism to our game, which is one of the things that was missing on Wednesday night.
‘It would have made a big difference to us because those two bring a different dimension,’ he added, referring to the 3-1 defeat to Binfield at Footes Lane.
GFC will be without the injured Kyle Smith, but Callum Stanton will be returning in goal to face a Westfield side who scored an injury-time penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw against the Green Lions at Footes Lane in November.
‘They were piling on the pressure in the last five minutes and eventually got the penalty. Unfortunately it was one of those games in that period where we dropped too many points from winning positions,’ said Vance, who gave his squad a night off from training on Thursday.
‘We said to them “have a break, recuperate and go again” because after next week we have got two games a week until the end of the season, so we have a big period coming up with a lot of away games and we need as many people available as we can get because it will be a big challenge.
‘This is a game we do not believe we should lose and we are going there with the intention of winning.’
Guernsey FC squad: Stanton, Marsh, Fallaize, Le Tocq, Dodd, Dodds, Acey, Gauvain, Jackson, K Mahon, L Mahon, Loaring, Allen, Rihoy, Le Tissier.
