South Park slipped from that position following their defeat to the Green Lions on Wednesday night while this afternoon’s opponents Marlow fell into fifth after both sides were leapfrogged by Chertsey Town thanks to their win at Tooting & Mitcham United, who in turn replaced GFC at the bottom of the table.

While Tony Vance was pleased to see his side rise three places to 17th thanks to Ross Allen’s winner against the ‘Sparks’, which made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the manager added that they are far from out of the woods yet.

But he emphasised having options to choose from is key and those options are there now.

‘It’s up to the players now because they need to hang in there, fight for shirts, show that camaraderie and if they can do that, we can get out of this,’ he said.

‘I said it last week and I’ve said it to the guys again, the players can make the difference now. We’re in the second half of the season, as long as they keep turning up and give us options, decisions to make, and they don’t sulk when they’ve been left out, we’ll be stronger for it.

‘It means that we’ve got a stronger hand to deal, with plan A, plan B and plan C.’

Marlow arrive in the island looking for their first league win of 2023 having so far registered two draws against Binfield and Thatcham Town as well as a defeat to fellow promotion-chasers Walton & Hersham since the turn of the year.

. Guernsey FC v Marlow kicks off at 1pm today at Footes Lane.
