Expanded Elite Men’s Foursomes to return in 2022
IT IS not new, but the Guernsey Press Elite Men’s Foursomes Championship will be improved next year.
After a successful inaugural event put together at short notice earlier this year, organiser and Guernsey men’s team captain Dave Jeffery has revealed that the 2022 edition will be open to 24 pairings and players will be able to choose their partners this time around.
Jeffery selected the 12 pairs who took part in the first event from golfers in contention for his Island men’s and senior men’s teams.
They competed in an 18-hole qualifier with the top eight combinations progressing to the knockout stages.
Jeremy Nicolle and Jake Marshall emerged as the inaugural winners, overcoming Ollie Chedhomme and Arthur Evans 4 & 3 in the final.
The 2022 championship will take place in the week starting 1 May.
Jeffery is ‘very excited’ to be bringing back the event.
‘It worked well last year given that it was up and running within a couple of weeks, and as with any inaugural event, you learn a few things on how you can modify the format to improve it moving forward,’ he said.
‘I won’t be pairing the players up this year as we have more time available to us. The event is open to the lowest-handicap 24 pairs and open to juniors, men and seniors.
‘I know the juniors are very keen and Mick Marley, for example, has indicated that he’ll be entering with his son Lewis, which is great to see and will no doubt help Lewis’s development as a top-level golfer.
‘It’s brilliant to have the Guernsey Press on board with sponsorship again. Hopefully the weather will be on our side come 1 May next year.’
Any pairing looking to enter can email Jeffery at lgmpresident@yahoo.com or look out for entry forms that will be posted to each club in the new year.
