Look out for the tall, blonde one

THEY will be dishing out another FNB player of the month award at Port Soif this afternoon.

It’s obviously a Rover or a Saint, then, who again will scoop the cash for their club and if I were a betting man I’d fancy it to be either a big tall, fair-headed bloke in blue-and-white or a big tall, fair-headed bloke in black-and-white.

There’s just a possibility, of course, it could be another fair-headed bloke in blue-and-white who plays in defence, or a big tall, fair-headed midfielder in black-and-white. Other than that quartet though, it could be anybody.

They will soon be handing out the big one – the FNB player of the season – which carries not only the honour but a £1,000 bonus for the player’s club, but before that major announcement and with the league season finally coming to an end this week, it’s a good time to look at which players might find their way into a league XI.

You won’t find any regular Green Lions in this side and it will be far removed from the starting side Chris Tardif picks for Springfield in a fortnight, but I’d like to think it is fully representative of the players who have maximised their own levels of ability for all or most of the campaign and have, in their own ways, been key for their side. In otherwords, a team of 100%ers.

Most of the clubs have an interest, but try as I might I could not squeeze anyone from Manzur, Sylvans or Bels.

That’s probably tough on the likes of Ross Yeates and John Hunt among the league’s new boys, and Seb Smeed out at St Peter’s.

But, in Smeed’s case, his Priaulx XI spot is blocked by Sam Hall, one of the outstanding performers of the year and so unlucky to pick up a bad injury with a potential Muratti final start so close.

I’ve juggled formation to get the 11 players I want in my side on the pitch, so for this entirely unimportant purpose I have gone for a 3-3-1-3 shape:

TEAM: Jason Martin (St Martin’s);

Damian Larkin (Vale Rec), Tom Strawbridge (Rovers), Damian Le Tocq (St Martin’s); Louis Hunter (St Martin’s), Josh Concanen (Alderney), Marcus Queripel (Rangers); Luke Mollet (North); Carlos Canha (Rovers), Wayne Bishop (Rangers), Sam Hall (Rovers).

Near misses: Tom Newbold (Rangers), Aaron Gallie (St Martin’s), Seb Smeed (Sylvans), Sam Murray (North), Danny Hale (St Martin’s).
