TOPPING the 2015 NatWest Island Games medal table in Jersey's backyard is a realistic aim, says Jon Marley.

The Guernsey Island Games Association games director, pictured, has just returned from Bermuda, along with the rest of Team Guernsey, from a Games that saw the Sarnians finish fifth in the medal table. It was a drop from their position at the top two years previously, but one that was not totally unexpected and it was a week in the sun that Marley thought was a great success.

'This was always going to be something of a transitional Games with a lot of youngsters, but I was still really pleased with how everybody performed,' he said.

'Although we were fifth in the table, I believe that it would have looked a lot different and certainly would have been a lot closer had there been no gymnastics in the programme. The Isle of Man won 47 medals in that alone, which shows how heavily weighted it was, and the table doesn't necessarily reflect the success we had during the week.'
