TEAM Guernsey paid their respects last night to two Faroes badminton officials who died in a car crash on their return to their native island from the NatWest Island Games in Bermuda.
At a vin d'honneur hosted by Bailiff Richard Collas at the Royal Court, Sarnian badminton gold medallist Paul Le Tocq told the gathering of the passing of Hogni Carlsson, team manager of the Faroe Islands badminton team and father of two of their players, and Vilhjalmur Gregoriussen, chairman of the Faroese Badminton Association, who were killed, along with their taxi driver, on the way home from the airport.
A period of silence was observed by those in attendance in tribute to the pair, who were well known to the Guernsey badminton squad.
The Bailiff added his condolences before telling the Sarnian Games competitors that 'it is right that we have this evening to thank you for what you did down in Bermuda and celebrate what you all achieved'.
