Both have entered the Christmas break on almost level ground, following a 62-62 draw when they last clashed at the start of the season.

Neither has lost to another women’s side so far, with their sole defeats coming at the hands of the ever-dominant men’s squad.

This leaves Blaze at five wins from seven as Rezzers A, who stand two games short due to a series of cancellations, enter the break with three wins from five.

The two sides each feature a strong complement of Saffery Panthers stars and, among them, Blaze captain Nena Copperwaite is hopeful of taking down the champions in due time.

‘This season our aim is to win the league – however, this is going to be tough and could potentially come down to the last match of the season as we are up against stiff opposition,’ she said regarding Rezzers in an interview for Fletcher Sports’ social media platforms after her side won its Team of the Month award.

The two sides’ recent clash was rescheduled for the end of the season and this may have a key say as to who takes the honours this winter.

Blaze did face Rezzers Black recently, though, capitalising on two island star attackers to set the defending champions’ second string alight 83-39.

Abbie Greening and Jemma Green have been instrumental in Panthers’ last two victories and both played a part in taking their Premier League side to victory.

The duo totalled 22 goals in an exciting first quarter and kept up this pace throughout, but great feeding from their wing-attacker, Kim Le Lacheur, was equally to credit and it was Le Lacheur who secured the opposition player of the match nomination.

Goal-shooter Kyra Butcher took the equivalent accolade for Rezzers B.

Meanwhile in Division One, Investec Zebras One have been outstanding so far with eight wins from nine.
