Batiste returns in a change of strategy

SAFFERY PANTHERS’ early-year hosting of Weston Park Blades Two tomorrow will be an important one as they hope to return to winning ways in South Division Three.

While Sussex Pumas pull ever further clear at the top of the league table, the Sarnians will look to avenge their earlier loss to Weston Park.

Nena Copperwaite’s side are one point above tomorrow’s opponents in the standings and the captain hopes for a good show from an illness-free roster.

‘We are able to field a strong squad this weekend with no one unavailable or ill,’ she said.

‘We are expecting a really tough match – Weston Park Blades have an excellent club set-up and are always a well-drilled team.

‘Last time we played, we were really disappointed with a lot of our play and subsequently fell by 20 goals to them,’ she added of their unfortunate loss three months back.

‘We are looking to put out a much better performance this time around – we’ve improved as the season has progressed and we are confident of pushing Weston Park all the way.

‘It’ll be a good match, but we’re up for it and have been working hard.’

In a squad that remains again largely unchanged, Steph Batiste will nevertheless replace Abbie Greening at GA to pair with dominant GS Jemma Green.

‘I think Verona [Tomlin] and Amber [Stables] would’ve had the biggest headache choosing our starting shooters as we’ve got quite a few to choose from, all of whom have played well recently,’ added centre Copperwaite, who feels Batiste will play into their feeding strategy but is mindful of the strong bench options.

Action takes place at Beau Sejour from 11.30am.
