A STRONG Portsmouth side belied their lowly league position to inflict Guernsey's biggest defeat of the rugby season on Saturday.

On a very hard ground, the home side's fly half Andy Barnes produced a superb kicking display that kept Guernsey at bay throughout the game.

Portsmouth came flying out of the blocks at the start of the game and within two minutes Barnes had opened the scoring with a penalty, although he was to miss his next attempt.

Within 10 minutes Portsmouth's winger Steven Gee scored a converted try in the corner after their forwards' domination and a further penalty by Barnes increased the score to 13-0, this time Guernsey being offside at the ruck.
