It’s Raiders v. Raiders
TWO sets of Raiders clash tomorrow on a historic day at Footes Lane.
The Guernsey Rugby Club host their first National Two South match and a strange quirk of fate sees them face Worthing, a club who also use the ‘Raiders’ moniker.
With the two most recent competitive fixtures at Footes Lane being the promotion play-off win over Bournemouth and the Siam Cup victory a week later, it would seemingly be difficult to match those occasions, but Guernsey head coach Jordan Reynolds believes it could turn out to be a memorable day in its own right.
His confidence has been buoyed dramatically by the feedback he has had from the local fans since last week’s 59-5 defeat at Old Albanian in his side’s debut at Level Four of the RFU league structure.
‘The support we have had after last week has been fantastic,’ Reynolds said.
‘Coming back from Old Albanian, we were pretty upset and we thought we had let everyone down, but a lot of people have come up to me and said “unlucky, we know you’re struggling with injuries at the moment but we will be coming to the game on Saturday to cheer you on” and I think it’s going to be an amazing day.
‘We probably need the crowd behind us even more so now than at the end of last season with the injuries we have and being at a higher level, so to have a lot of people come down on Saturday would be great and hopefully we can match our performance to the noise of the crowd.’
Reynolds has made some alterations to his backline as he searches for the ideal combinations.
