KRISTINA NEVES won one gold and two of Europe's top juniors combined to deny her a second title on a superb second day for the Sarnian star at the British Gas ASA National Youth Championships in Sheffield.

Neves claimed the 14/15 years 400m freestyle title in a huge personal best of 4min. 18.7sec. which was a four-second improvement on her PB which doubled as an island long course record, regardless of age.

She then took on new European junior 200m butterfly champion, Romford's Elena Sheridan and Euro bronze medallist Georgia Barton from Preston, in the final of the 200m butterfly, and with another island best took bronze.

Neves, who is a year younger than both her rivals, clocked 2min. 16.72sec., while Sheridan swam 2-10.44, a fraction slower than the time which won her the European title in Belgrade a few weeks ago to become the seventh fastest all-time British female 200m fly swimmer.
