Kyle Edmund kept the British flag flying at the Australian Open in searing heat with a gutsy five-set victory over Nikoloz Basilashvili on Friday.

Home hope Nick Kyrgios defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach the fourth round for the second time in Melbourne while Rafael Nadal is yet to drop a set after crushing Damir Dzumhur.

In the women’s draw there were comfortable wins for Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina, who ended the run of 15-year-old Marta Kostyuk, but French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko was beaten by Anett Kontaveit.
