Marc Bartra has denied he is struggling to cope with the after-effects of the bomb attack on Borussia Dortmund’s team coach prior to their Champions League match against Monaco last year.

Bartra was hit with shrapnel and had surgery on his wrist after explosives were detonated near the Dortmund bus in April.

The 27-year-old Spanish defender appeared in court on Monday to give evidence in the trial of Sergei Wenergold, the man who has already admitted to remotely setting off three bombs.

Bartra was quoted by a number of media outlets as telling the court that the attack had changed his life, and that he suffers from nightmares.

But in response to the reports, Bartra published a statement on Twitter insisting he had been misquoted.

He wrote: “I would like to request respect from some media who say that I have declared that I have not yet overcome the attack on BVB bus and I still have nightmares.

“I disprove such assertion. It is NOT true.

“My statements have been: ‘After all [this] I feel even stronger and if an attack could not be done with me, nothing could do it. The attack changed my life because now I feel life with much more strength’.”
