Cameron Norrie beaten in first round at Indian Wells

British number one Kyle Edmund will face lucky loser Dudi Sela in the second round.

British number three Cameron Norrie lost his first round clash against Japan’s Taro Daniel at the BNP Paribas Open.

The 22-year-old battled through qualifying to make it to the main draw at Indian Wells, but found himself losing the first set 6-3 after 34 minutes.

Norrie rallied in the second dominating on serve to take the set 6-1 and force a decider, but went down 6-1 with Daniel facing Novak Djokovic in the next round.

Kyle Edmund, who received a bye into the second round, will play lucky loser Dudi Sela from Israel after he beat Peter Gojowczyk 6-4 6-4.

There was also wins for Gael Monfils who beat Australian Matthew Ebden 6-3 6-3 and wild card Ernesto Escobedo who beat fellow American Frances Tiafoe – who beat Juan Martin del Petro and Hyeon Chung on his way to last month’s Delray Beach Open title – 7-5 6-3.
