Kurzawa and PSG out to prove dominance in Coupe de la Ligue final
The Ligue 1 leaders have won the knockout competition every year since 2013.
Layvin Kurzawa has urged PSG to ram home their dominance of French football by winning a fifth successive Coupe de la Ligue final.
Unai Emery’s men face the team they lead by 17 points in Ligue 1 when they play Monaco in Bordeaux on Saturday.
“We have a comfortable lead in the league but our aim is to show our superiority. We have to win trophies and break records,” said France full-back Kurzawa, who swapped Monaco for PSG in 2015.
Twelve months ago PSG cruised to a 4-1 victory against the Monaco team that went on to replace them as league champions.
“We were in second place behind them in Ligue 1 and we had to prove in that final that it was nothing more than a slip. We wanted to show that we were still the boss,” Kurzawa told Ligue1.com.
“We want to win every trophy possible, starting with the Coupe de la Ligue. It won’t be easy, because Monaco are formidable opponents, but we have to do what is needed to achieve our objectives.”
PSG’s Thiago Motta is suspended while Neymar remains sidelined by injury. Monaco will be without injured trio Diego Benaglio, Adama Traore and Keita Balde.
Monaco have a seven-point advantage over Marseille for second place in the league, and an automatic Champions League place – the team finishing third must go through two qualifying rounds.
That has affected coach Leonardo Jardim’s priorities and he said: “We want to win, a trophy adds to everyone’s CV.
“But second place changes next season. That is more important.”
