Stuart Broad strikes after rain delay as India struggle to save second Test

The wicket of Ajinkya Rahane brought Virat Kohli to the crease.

Stuart Broad joined the party as England made further inroads into India’s second innings in the second Specsavers Test at Lord’s.

After James Anderson had reduced the tourists to 13 for two before a 90-minute rain delay, Broad got involved once the action resumed by removing Ajinkya Rahane for 13.

Keaton Jennings took a neat catch away to his left at third slip to make it 35 for three.

That brought Virat Kohli – India’s only hope of saving the match along with the weather – to the crease and he survived some early scares as Broad beat the outside edge of his bat on several occasions.

England had earlier extended their overnight lead to 289 before declaring immediately after Sam Curran was dismissed for 40.

Kohli joined Cheteshwar Pujara at the crease and they are charged with reducing their deficit further, which at 48 for three, stood at 241.
