Reigning Super Bowl champions the Philadelphia Eagles have crashed out of the NFL playoffs after losing 20-14 to the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints advanced to host the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game after escaping a first-quarter scare.

After falling behind 14-0, the Saints rallied to stop the Eagles putting another point on the board in the remaining three quarters.

Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns while receiver Michael Thomas recorded 12 receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams earlier edged out Dallas Cowboys 30-22 to book their place in the NFC Championship game, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

In the night’s other game, Tom Brady threw for 343 yards to steer the New England Patriots past the Los Angeles Chargers 41-28 and into the AFC title game for the eighth year running.

The Patriots will now meet the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend after powering past the Chargers on Sunday.

Running back Sony Michel rushed for three touchdowns, with wide receiver Julian Edelman racking up 151 yards.
