Liverpool striker Divock Origi has launched a new scholarship programme to benefit students in the city.

In partnership with the University of Liverpool the Divock Origi Scholarship – which will cover tuition fees and include an annual payment towards living costs (a combined total of £12,250 a year) – will initially be offered on a competitive basis to two students who will begin an undergraduate course at the university in September 2021.

A third student will also be funded in 2022 and a fourth and final student in 2023.

“From a purpose perspective and understanding the position of influence and impact I’m blessed to have, I know the importance of being given an opportunity, while also truly believing in the ability of future generations to achieve greatness,” said Origi.

The Belgium international was praised by Pro-Vice-Chancellor for education at the University of Liverpool Professor Gavin Brown.

“I am delighted that we have Divock Origi partnering with us to create new opportunities for young people in Liverpool,” he said.

“Divock is an inspiring figure for young people in our city and his support will help us in our aim to nurture local talent and potential.”
