Lions draw with the All Blacks and fans can’t get over the drama
It means the whole series ends in a draw, which left British and Irish Lions skipper Sam Warburton speechless.
The British and Irish Lions have claimed a dramatic 15-15 draw against world champions New Zealand at Eden Park.
The team headed into the clash knowing they could become the first Lions side to win a Test series in New Zealand since 1971.
But the tourists trailed 12-6 at half-time. And they had to rely on a 78th-minute penalty from Owen Farrell to secure a 1-1 draw across the three matches.
The All Blacks thought they had a chance to win with just seconds left. But as Beauden Barrett lined up a kick at goal, referee Romain Poite consulted television replays and awarded a scrum to New Zealand instead for accidental offside.
And New Zealand were guilty of blowing a number of gilt-edged chances that ultimately returned to haunt them.
So. Much. Drama.
The moment that Farrell’s nerves held together to take a penalty three minutes from time, and snatched the Lions an against-all-odds draw, was also a tense highlight for many.
The atmosphere at Eden Park must have been unbelievable… especially as the game wrapped up.
In general, people on Twitter thought it was a cracking game of rugby, wherever they watched it from.
But some were left with a feeling of anti-climax, asking for another test match to avoid the series being a draw.
