The Lionesses just did something that no England team has ever managed at the Euros
Three wins from three sends the Lionesses through to the quarter-finals.
The summer of 2017 is proving to be a highly successful one for England’s football teams, and the women’s side are the latest to demonstrate their ability on the international stage.
A 2-1 win against Portugal secured the Lionesses’ third win from three, completing a 100% record that no England men’s or women’s senior side has achieved at a European Championships.
After thrashing Scotland 6-0, narrower wins against Spain and Portugal saw England six points clear of all of their opponents.
The men’s team did go undefeated at Euro 2016, but drew two of those games before losing to Iceland in the last-16.
Meanwhile the women’s team finished third from four in their group in 2009, but qualified as one of two best third-place finishers, and reached the final where they lost 6-2 to Germany.
Theo Walcott helped England win two and draw one of their group games at Euro 2012, and was pretty happy for the Lionesses.
And while they will have enjoyed winning their group so convincingly, the team now have a tough test against France in the quarter-final on Sunday.
Could they become the first England team to win the Euros too?
