Tinder for Tennis is here and you’ll never guess who’s behind it
You’ve guessed it – it’s about matching with people with similar tennis skills.
An online tennis club backed by the founder of easyJet is aiming to connect tennis players with other tennis fans to play with.
easyTennis matches players based on location, skill level and availability through a simple website.
The venture from entrepreneur Ganesh Rao was given a £10,000 investment by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou’s easyGroup as part of a competition to find new brands to add to the group’s arsenal.
“Tennis is a great sport but it’s no fun if you’ve got nobody to play with,” said Rao.
“Frustrated that I couldn’t find anyone I tried joining a tennis club but unless you ‘knew’ people there I actually had the same problem – just an expensive one!”
Although they are just offering a matching service and showing public courts to play on at the moment, online booking will become available towards the end of the year.
The company is also hoping to offer coaching, tournaments and tennis holidays in the future.
Sir Stelios said: “easyTennis is a great way to meet new friends and improve your game.
“It’s also a great fit with our ‘easy’ brand values – taking on the posh, expensive clubs and making tennis more accessible and affordable. Definitely for the many – not the few!”
