The tenant of the property was upstairs at the time the fire alarm went off but the microwave had been in use downstairs to sterilise a baby's bottle.
Guernsey Fire and Rescue were called to the scene by the tenant at Les Genats, Cobo, at around 6pm on Wednesday. The small fire was extinguished using a single appliance with a hose reel and two fire officers with breathing apparatus.
Damage to the inside of the kitchen was mostly caused by smoke.
Crew Commander Affleck said: 'this is why we tell people to have fire alarms.'
