The lawn bowls star took silver in the women's singles after just being edged out 21-17 by Australia's Ellen Ryan in a closely-fought and tense final at Victoria Park in Royal Leamington Spa.

Beere started well and opened up a 10-2 lead early on, but Ryan then found her range to draw level at 11-11 after 13 ends.

After that it was nip-and-tuck all the way, although luck seemed to desert Beere on the 20th end when she somehow managed to run through a tiny gap between the jack and her opponent's bowl to lose a count of three.

But while Ryan went on to claim gold, Beere is the pride of Guernsey after winning the island's seventh Commonwealth Games medal and second in lawn bowls after Jenny Nicolle and Marie Smith took women's pairs silver at Edinburgh 1986.

Beere still has the pairs to come at Birmingham 2022 in which she will partner Rose Ogier.
