Storm Brendan is set to arrive in Guernsey tonight

STORM Brendan is set to arrive in the Channel Islands tonight, with gusts of up to 50mph expected over the next few days.

UK Met Office has issued yellow wind warnings for western parts of the UK, while Guernsey Met Office issued tide alerts for tonight and tomorrow's high tides.

A Guernsey Met Office spokesperson said the wind was expected to get up tonight and continue to be strong over the next few days.

The wind will be south westerly, between force six and eight, with gusts of up to 50mph - gale force nine - also expected.

A tide alert has been issued for the west coast for tonight's 9.1m high tide, just after 8.30pm. Another warning was issued for tomorrow's 9.4m high tide just before 9am. There could be some water over the seawall, as well as debris on the coast road.

Condor put on an extra Liberation sailing between Guernsey and Poole yesterday ahead of the bad weather. Today's Liberation and Clipper sailings have been cancelled and tomorrow's Clipper sailing is being reviewed.

Travel Trident and Sark Shipping have cancelled their afternoon sailings to the islands.

The met office spokesperson said the weather over the next few days would be unsettled, with sunny periods among the showers. It is set to settle down on Friday, as a ridge of high pressure arrives.
