Guernsey Post made a special delivery of just over 400 letters on Saturday morning to islanders aged 75 and above, inviting them to schedule their appointment.

They will be the first to receive a vaccination from next Monday in the Community Vaccination Centre, due to open in the Sir John Loveridge Hall at Beau Sejour.

The call centre is open from 8am until 8pm on weekdays, and 8am until noon on weekends.

There was a steady stream of calls over the weekend, where in total 128 individuals booked both their initial vaccination and second dose six weeks later.

‘I am pleased we have now launched the Vaccine Contact Centre,’ said its manager, Toni Airley.

‘This represents a significant step forward in our response to Covid-19. The staff working over the weekend received calls from delighted islanders who were keen to receive the vaccine as soon as possible.

‘Callers were also keen to take the earliest available appointment and were clearly prioritising this over their other commitments.

‘We did hear from some who were apologising for contacting us over the weekend. There is no need to be concerned about bothering us, we are here seven days a week to help.’

Letters to the remaining islanders aged 75 and above will be sent out in batches this week.

Those who receive letters who wish to make an appointment are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. Family members can make appointments on behalf of individuals.

Vaccines will be delivered by moving down the prioritised groups.
