The call came in at 6pm, with the woman reporting that the 31-year-old man had entered the water at the north end of the bay at about 4.30 and had not been seen since

The Coastguard launched the Channel Islands Air Search aircraft and the RNLI all-weather lifeboat Spirit of Guernsey and the inshore lifeboat Harold Hobbs.

Police sent officers to the scene to search ashore.

Both lifeboats arrived on scene at about 6.40pm and Air Search were airborne five minutes later.

At 6.47 police officers on the beach below the fish and chip shop spotted the man walking out of the sea. After checking that the man was unhurt, all search and rescue craft were stood down.

The CIAS aircraft was back on station at 7.05, and both of the RNLI’s lifeboats were back on station by 7.34pm.
