Liberate was founded earlier in the year and, although relatively new, honorary chairperson Martin Gavet, 44, said that after same-sex marriage became legal in the UK this year, the time was right for the group to form.
He said they had looked at setting up a few years ago but had little response.
'But now – and I don't know if society is evolving – but with equal marriage, people are standing up for what they believe in.
'It was much more difficult for people to come out, but now Guernsey is changing considerably and in my lifetime has become far more cosmopolitan.'
