Town Constables 'should resign' over centre manager row
CRUNCH talks have been held between douzeniers over the appointment of a town centre manager.
The St Peter Port Douzaine is expected to release a statement later today outlining its position.
This comes after constables Barry Cash and Dennis Le Moignan apologised for the apparently secret appointment of the role.
The surprise news that Jack Honeybill had been employed on a wage capped at £20,000 a year caused a backlash at a parish meeting earlier this month, with some questioning why the job could not be undertaken by douzeniers.
But when the subject was brought up at Monday's douzaine meeting it led to douzenier Pete Burtenshaw walking out.
'I am just appalled at the way this has been handled,' he said.
'The way it was decided was appalling and I believe people have been misled.
'I feel the constables should resign
'I am also concerned about the conflict of interest of some the douzeniers as a lot of them were on the Town Centre Partnership and I have always been worried about the partnership taking over the douzaine.'
