This followed questions from Deputy John Gollop who described issues surrounding politicians' latest 1.3% increase as embarrassing.

Roughly a quarter of deputies turned down the median earnings-linked increase with some pledging to give theirs to charity.

In response, Deputy John Le Tocq said the current pay deal, which was proposed by an independent review panel and adopted ahead of the 2012 election, expired at the end of this political term.

This Assembly had rejected the idea of imposing a pay freeze, so the Policy Council was therefore bound to review the arrangements.

'The Policy Council will be working towards making the necessary arrangements to ensure this is completed in good time to... report back to the States before May 2016.'

When asked if the report would come in 2015, Deputy Le Tocq said the Policy Council would do its utmost to ensure that deputies had the opportunity to discuss the proposals in advance.
