One provider for key workers homes option

HEALTH and Social Services has joined forces with Housing to look at the benefits of transferring all key worker housing to a single provider.

It comes after the loss of more key worker housing.

The Mapleton Private Hotel, which is used by nurses, could be demolished to make way for six new houses.

Initial plans were approved last year, but changes to the application have yet to be given the go-ahead.

At present HSSD can accommodate a maximum of 295 staff in 25 properties. that are currently in use

It said that number was relatively stable.

'Currently there is little, if any, demand for an increase in the quantity of staff accommodation.

'But if the type of accommodation was better suited to the range of needs of essential workers, then it is likely there would be increased demand and it would help recruitment.'
