With five races spread throughout the afternoon, many islanders decided to make a day of the event, turning up with picnics.

Guernsey Race Club president Jim Jamouneau said he was thrilled with the turnout, although he did not have exact numbers yet for how many packed the event.

'We are really over the moon,' he said.

'Everybody enjoyed their day and the weather was very good.

'We are especially pleased that the Germany horses did so well, as they have stated they will bring back a box next year.'
