Guernsey is perfect parkour playground
GUERNSEY'S natural environment is the perfect playground to learn the sport of parkour, an expert coach said yesterday.
This was the message from James Adams, one of two Parkour Generations coaches visiting the island to introduce the sport, otherwise known as free running, to youngsters and adults alike.
He said it was a myth that free running should be restricted to urban, city-style environments.
'You can start with any experience, ability or level of fitness,' he said. 'It is just about overcoming obstacles in your own environment.
'Guernsey is really great for it. Doing it in the natural environment, where it's not all right angles and straight lines, provides you with all fresh kinds of challenges and circumstances.'
Mr Adams and his colleague Andy Pearson held a number of taster classes yesterday and today will be putting on a course for teachers to enable them to deliver parkour.
