Dementia home appeal thrown out by tribunal
A PLANNING tribunal has rejected a well-supported appeal to convert the former Green Acres Hotel into a desperately-needed specialist dementia home.
But hopes remain that the project might still get the go-ahead, despite the appeal, against Environment's original rejection, being thrown out.
Green Acres Property Ltd director Dr Peter Richards said he was disappointed and surprised with the decision, but stated the group would be re-applying and addressing the appeal tribunal's concerns.
The tribunal's report said that while there was an undisputed need for the facility, the planning application had failed to prove that the St Martin's building in the Hubits could not remain as a hotel, which was needed to maintain tourist bed numbers.
Despite backing up the planners, the tribunal was scathing of the Environment and Commerce and Employment departments.
