The owners of Kings Health Club yesterday confirmed they would re-apply after failing with plans – originally submitted in 2012 – to build 13 apartments on the site of the two most easterly tennis courts.

While planners had recommended that the scheme go ahead, the political board went against that advice and rejected it at an open planning meeting last June. The case went to was taken to an appeal process, where the panel recently confirmed they had refused it.

However, yesterday in response owner Long Port said it would reapply for permission.

'Kings are disappointed that its current residential development application has been refused at appeal notwithstanding the fact it was recommended for approval by the Environment Department professional planning officers.

'Kings will reapply for residential planning consent, given that the appeal tribunal have stated that "the site was in principle acceptable for housing development and capable of making a valuable contribution to housing supply in a sustainable location".
