Its last stop before Delancy Park was St Mary and St Michael.

Staff and pupils were shown a video of all the nations and territories it has visited.

Head boy Leighton Woodhead and head girl Seanna Hainsworth, both 11, carried the baton to the park having had it handed to them by Vale Primary students Gemma Creber and Alfie Penney both 11.

'I am really excited and I have been watching this on the news,' Seanna said.

Leighton said: 'I was a bit nervous before but I'm excited now.'

The baton was also seen at the park by students from St Sampson's Infants.

It goes on to Alderney, Herm and Sark tomorrow.

The relay is the main curtain raiser for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, which will be held between 23 July and 3 August.

The baton contains a sealed, secret message written by the Queen.
