Airport signals project is coming to the end

FINAL stages of essential maintenance and improvement works at Guernsey Airport are expected to be finished next month.

The outstanding tasks are mostly final groundworks around the airfield as well as the restoration of areas used for temporary construction compounds while the main project was being carried out.

The operations began late last year, but heavy rainfall from December made the site conditions unsuitable.

It was not until the end of March that the soil had dried out sufficiently for Lagan Construction to restart.

Since last month, Lagan staff have been working outside the restricted zone around the runway.

However, from this week, a local contractor has started in areas closer to the runway and taxiways, which are accessible only at night.
