Widespread anger over paid parking
PAID parking's chief architect Yvonne Burford has confirmed that she will consider standing as Environment minister after yesterday's announcement that Roger Domaille and two other board members have resigned.
As thousands of islanders yesterday expressed anger and disappointment at the Assembly's decision, moves were already being made to find a replacement for Deputy Domaille, who stood down after his majority transport report was rejected by the States.
Deputy Burford said that a number of deputies and others had asked her whether she would consider the job.
'People in and out of the States have mentioned it to me,' she said.
'It's not surprising given I did most of the work on the minority report. This has been a busy time for me and I'm going to take the weekend to think about it.'
Deputy Barry Brehaut, who also signed the minority report that contained the paid parking proposals, said he would support Deputy Burford if she was to stand for election at the end of May. However, he had not completely discounted standing for the role.
Creaseys Department Store managing director Peter Creasey, pictured, labelled the decision as 'crazy'.
