PAID parking will have to return to the States for final approval and could be challenged at that point, it has been confirmed.

While public outcry continued yesterday, it was established that the matter will go back to the Assembly for legislative approval, opening it up to further debate.

And out-going Environment minister Roger Domaille also warned that challenges, perhaps in the form of a requete (States petition), were likely if the public reaction continued to be so fiercely against the move.

Other politicians against paid parking also believed it could be debated again, but some said that might not be until the next States term in 2016 with the potential of it becoming an election issue.

Deputy Domaille said the States had not heard the last of paid parking.
