Deputy Le Tocq, pictured, has thanked the group, Liberate, for the emails he has received through its petition calling for reform.

The Policy Council's social policy group is investigating a local solution for legally recognising the relationship between two people regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

'This has come to be known as Union Civile. This work is part of the Policy Council's equality and rights programme and a report will be brought before the States before the end of the current political term; that is by April 2016,' said Deputy Le Tocq in a letter to the group.

'A working party responsible for driving this work forward has been set up, of which I am a member. The next stage will be a period of consultation, listening and hearing the views of those most affected.

'We welcome the work of Liberate and the insight you can give to us and look forward to involving you in consultation.'
